Now are you sure you want a piece of me?

Grr. So, I walked out of my shift at Wal-Mart (this was like a year and a half ago, don't get confused) to accept a position at Sonic with Javi as an assistant manager. I knew it was going to suck, and it didn't disappoint. It really, really sucked. I mean, it wasn't a surprise, I can't stress that enough. I knew it was going to suck. I was just sick of Wal-Mart, and was ready to return to an environment I knew.

Of course, I did the same thing in four (?) months when Sergio called and asked me if I wanted to come be an assistant for him, now that he had the store. I did that, and haven't really looked back since.

Until now.

Things have been pretty crappy lately. I mean, this sounds like just a lot of whining. Dylan keeps saying "Any day you're above ground is a good one" and "Things could always be a lot worse". I know both of those things, and I don't get all melodramatic or lost perspective on things. However, I'm a passionate person with strong emotions, and I'm not good at controlling, restraining, or hiding those emotions. Today, I was really thinking about quitting. Things are getting bad. We've only hired ONE new insider, and he SUCKS. I should clarify, that I don't expect too much from new people. They're going to be rough. They're going to have a lot of questions. It's a lot of stuff to pick up all at once. I can understand all that. I encourage them to ask questions when I'm training them. I let them know that it's much, much worse to not ask than to ask a question you think might make you look stupid. However, we do expect you to start learning things at *some* point. You have to ask a question once or twice, no problem. When you ask it the fifth time, maybe there's starting to be an issue. I mean, we've got Katy working inside now; she's been a driver for a while now, but she's probably only got a little more experience than he does, and she's orders of magnitude better. We've already given her the ability to authorize stuff on carryouts, edit orders, the whole package. That sounds pretty dumb and insignificant, but it's a measure of her progress.

So that's fun. It's alleviated a little bit by Sandra's return next week. There's a bit of an issue, though, since her, Josh, and Lease all want to open. There's only seven opening shifts; well, nine, if we do two on Saturday and Sunday (and we'll need 'em once football starts), although I suspect Q will cover some of those by work 12-10 shifts on the weekend. So some of them are going to have to work nights, which is good, 'cause that will put some major strength back in our night crew. I mean, it's a far cry from when our inside crew consisted of myself, Joe, Ashley, Sergio, Jess, and Jen. Any one of us could open or close at the drop of a hat, and any two of us could handle a 50 pie hour (to say nothing of the time Jess and I had an 111 pie hour).

To make things even worse, Jenni and Gina were both there when I went in to work today. Seeing Gina always makes things suck; normally, having Jenni there would be more than enough to make things great. Of course, that wouldn't be the case today. She came by the store for two reasons - one, to tell Q about who he needed to talk to about the dorm stuff (which is also what Gina was there for, kinda; I suspect she was there to talk about sandwiches and pasta, but that's what they were talking about when I was there). The second reason was to let us know that she wouldn't be returning to us. It wasn't really a big surprise; she'd been gone all summer, and had only been working one shift a week before that. I'll finish this later.

Don't you have somewhere to go?

So I know it's clichè, but what with time being an arbitrary concept and all, New Year's provides just as good a time to reflect as anything. A good time to look back at the last year, see where I am, where I'm going, what's coming up.

Let's start with what happened recently. I worked New Year's Eve, which isn't a big deal. I usually do - last year, the year before that, the year before that, but the year before that, I think I was with Suzie in Galveston. I remember three New Year's ago, when I got off from Sonic, was driving home, Mom called me from All Niter, her and Jerry were there, we sat on the patio and had breakfast. Lilie drove by. Good times. So anyway.

I spent this New Year's making pizzas. Luckily, I wasn't taking an order or anything when the ball dropped (which is my way of saying "Midnight struck"). Just kind of standing there. I was very aware of when it was. Bill and Chris were my closing drivers, but they were both out on runs. They were pretty much running nonstop 'til the end of the night. I got a few calls around midnight - Danielle called, that was awesome. Hadn't really talked to her or anything in quite a while. Danielle and Jenni both called, that was fun. Had a few drunks order some pizza in person, that's always fun. I think part of my aversion to drinking is how very, very much I hate talking to drunk people. I hear it's not so bad when you're also drunk. Whatever.

I went to Wal-Mart after work, picked up some juice and stuff. Of course, Rebecca was my cashier. Good times. She was smiling a lot. I'm not naive enough to think she was smiling because of me, but it was definitely at, and I'll take my victories where I can get them.

[Sidenote: I'm watching "Blonde Ambition" while typing this. Atrocious movie. Jessica Simpson's character is a country bumpkin stuck in the big city. She doesn't know how to ride a bike. I'll let that sink in a for a moment. At least Rachael Leigh Cook is in it. She's awesome. Also, apparently, she did the voice of Tifa Lockhart in most of the Final Fantasy adaptations, post-VII. Good stuff.]

Anyway, it really helped dispel all the bad vibes I got from her on Christmas Eve with Jenni. Moving on. I had to give Rose a ride home the next night, she needed to go to Wal-Mart that night. We spent about fifteen minutes in the hair care aisle, she needed some conditioner without certain chemicals in it. Or something, I don't know. I keep my head shaved. Whatever. We had to go through sporting goods for a thermos or something. For whatever reason, I picked up a baseball bat. I started carrying that around for a while. It's a guy thing. Whatever.

So we took the corner towards electronics, and she's standing there right next to the Guitar Hero demo. Long story short, she's watching electronics during lunch, and the other girl, the one playing very badly in training mode, was on lunch. I felt kind of weird holding on to the bat, but I went with it. Rose kind of took off, went to finish her shopping. The girl playing finished the song, realized the game probably wasn't for her. Rebecca and I talked a little while the other girl (she needs a name if I'm going to bring her up very many more times in this story; 'other girl' and 'that girl' is starting to get a little repetitive). She said something about her brother who 'has like, every video game system ever' and apparently doesn't like girls that much because they talk to much and prevent him from playing his games. Good times. She thinks he might be gay. Or something. She didn't want to play, because her eyes don't focus fast enough. She said something about the doctor telling her she needs to exercise her eyes more, and she's annoyed, because the last thing she wants is another doctor telling her she needs to exercise more. Or something.

[How the F did they get Rachael Leigh Cook for this piece of crap? It's awesomely tragic. Oh, crap, Willie Nelson. He must really like Jessica Simpson, or something.]

So she - that other girl - finishes, and asks Rebecca if she wants to play, so she turns to me and asks me if I want to. I hesitantly accepted. I went with 'Hit Me With Your Best Shot', because I know the song really well. I did 98%-ish. It was great, because my hands were sweaty. I'm a big, big guy, and I like to think I do some physically demanding things - I play racquetball, I play DDR. I sweat a lot during those times, but my hands stay dry. They don't sweat at all. Ever.

But they were sweating the whole time I played the song. I guess that means I was really, really nervous. Which I was. Which means I actually like her.

Crazy.

Moving on.

So I finished the song, put down the guitar, said something to the effect of "That's not really fair, 'cause I play this all the time.", picked up the baseball bat I set down by the demo unit, and walked off. I had no idea what was going on. I found Rose, and we went about our shopping. She asked me where the latex gloves were, so I went and asked Rebecca. We talked a bit.

Oh, I was still holding the baseball bat. It wouldn't be right without it.

We talked a little bit; she told me a story about her boyfriend. I'm still debating the point of the story. It could go any number of ways - maybe she was just making small talk (it was a funny story, after all), or just sharing about her New Year's Eve / life stuff, or, quite possibly,

[Major plot hole. This is what I don't get. If they want Jessica Simpson's character to be that idiot's secretary so they can manipulate her, why are they constantly sabotaging her plans? Wouldn't they want to help her and have her do well, so she would gain his trust and thus be a more valuable asset in their plan? I guess that's what I get for trying to actually follow the plot of a movie that makes fun of Norwegians for no real reason. It's not so much making fun of them, as it is randomly having them do karaoke - 'Baby Got Back', no less - in the most horrendous accents I've ever heard.]

[Oh gosh. Here comes the montage where the small-town girl grows accustomed to her big-city job, but turns her back on her small-town roots. I'm already looking forward to the moment of truth where she decides, momentously, to re-embrace her values.]

or, quite possibly, as a way to remind me that she has a boyfriend. (Of course, best-case is that she was reminding herself, because she was afraid she was forgetting. Probably not, but it's fun to dream.)

Moving on.

We got the gloves, we went home.

So yeah, that was fun.

Now, about reminiscing and stuff.

Let's start with work.

I started the New Year working at Wal-Mart. Literally - as usual, I was working that night. Worked there until early April, when Javi called me and asked me if I wanted to come back to Sonic. Ashley Hopkins lent a lot of credence to that argument, and I walked out. That was fun. What was really, really fun about that was that Ambra had started working there by that point, she was also working that night. Lots of freight, understaffed, all the greatest hits we know and love from working at Wal-Mart.

I started at Sonic a week later. It was, well, interesting. Ashley ended up quitting, so did Javi. I ended up working around seventy hours a week. I didn't mind the hours - one week, I had about ninety hours, that was a nice paycheck. Overall, it was a good turning point - allowed me to build a decent reserve really fast (I moved back home around the same time, worked out well). The problem I had at Sonic? Well, it was two-fold. First, as it often the case with crappy service jobs, everyone there hated working it. Now, the thing about these jobs is that the co-workers often make it bearable. That wasn't the case - they had really, really bad attitudes. I can name a few off the top of my head, but it's really not worth it. The second issue was Bubba. He was cool at first, until I got to know him. Not hiring people, not taking an active hand in his store, underordering, argh. I got sick of it.

Luckily, Sergio called from Domino's and asked me if I wanted to come be an assistant for him, as he had just gotten the store. I thought about it, but I was afraid. I hate big decisions; I seem to always mess them up. Of course, I felt pretty good about that one. I put in my two weeks at Sonic, walked out a week later. I've been working at Domino's ever since. Of course, my work history now goes Sonic - Domino's - Wal-Mart - Sonic - Domino's. Good stuff. There was a two day stint at CRI, which isn't really even worth mentioning (well, except for that).

So, yeah. Been working 40-50 (more like 45, not so much 50 anymore) hours a week there, 5-C five times a week.

There's work.

Living Situation.

Not much to talk about here. I was living at Les Chateaux, but I moved home. It does make me feel kind of a loser and all, being twenty-five, working at Domino's, being completely single, morbidly obese, good times. Of course, I'm working on all of those things. I'm twenty-five and don't have a degree, but I am back in school. I'm funding that with Domino's, and I'm working on my weight. Good stuff. Oh, and I pay rent.

[Holy crap, this movie sucks.]

Social:

HAHAHAHAHAHA. Not much to say here. Thankfully, Lilie is no longer a part of my life in any way. Passed her on Thanksgiving, didn't answer when she called. I still think about her occasionally, during depression spirals,

[This scene is actually humorous.]

but that's not really specific to her - that's more about her being the last person I was that close to, and her being such a major part of my life for so long. Comparatively speaking, of course.

So yeah, single and probably going to stay that way for a while. No real prospects or anything. I mean, I kind of have a thing for Rebecca,

[Extreme Sports Bonanza? I miss Rachael Leigh Cook pretending to be part of the marina group.]

Moving on.

but I'm not going to delude myself into thinking that anything's going to happen there.

[Now the running to find his true love and prevent a misunderstanding from becoming a tragedy. Gyp and Buddy could have written a more imaginative, if more cheese-oriented, screenplay.]

So what's in store for this year? School. Work. Getting in shape. Taking control of my life, maybe growing up a little (not too much, don't worry).

So, resolutions? Not sure. I'm cutting dairy almost entirely out of my diet, but that's not a resolution so much as it is a 'I don't want to feel like crap, I'm lactose intolerant' kind of thing. I'm going to be back in school, but that's too much of a thing that's like, interwoven into your life to be a New Year's Resolution. The same goes for health things. I'll get back to you on that one.

This is the story of the lalala girl, from lalala land

So, a quick update of various facets of my life, in a rare moment where I'm not doing anything else.

Domino's is going fine. I'm closing five nights a week, working around fifty hours. It's a cut in pay from Sonic, to be sure, but only because I'm working fifteen to twenty hours a week less than I was at Sonic. However, working here doesn't leave me emotionally and psychologically drained - I don't spend my entire first day off sleeping and/or lying in bed, unable to move. That's nice. The drivers have pretty much accepted me as a manager - not that they had a *ton* of choice in the matter - I just mean that they listen to what I say with only minimal resistance. I don't get any "But Sergio does it this way" or "But Bill would let me do that!". That's nice. The inside crew is pretty cool, too. Sergio has really opened up, talks a lot more now. Part of that is being GM, he pretty much has to, though if he were really determined, I'm sure he could find a way to continue being really quiet while GMing, but he's not.

I went through the drive-through at Jack-in-the-Box a while back, and holy crap! Rebecca was there! I wasn't going to say anything, because I, well, really had no idea what *to* say. However, she initiated conversation with me! - "Hey, haven't seen you here in a while!" I told her I was working at Domino's again, and she told me how she didn't like working at JitB, how she was thinking of going to apply at Wal-Mart or something. I took all that as a positive sign, that she wouldn't have said any of that if she thought I was just a creepy bastard that she dreaded dealing with. I've only seen her once since then, which is kind of a drag. Ah, well. It's usually this two random douchèbag guys working the window when I go through, which makes me sad. Ah, well. I've been referring to her as my pretend girlfriend, which I guess is kind of creepy, but it's not like I'm stalking her or anything.

Lilie called me a few days ago, I actually called her back. Nothing terribly notable there, she sounded sad and said she missed me, that she was sorry we hadn't talked in like two (four) months. I don't know how to tell her that she's just not an important part of my life anymore, that I've moved on. Completely. Whatever.

Still set for going back to school in January, and I'm both excited and nervous about it. I mean, I'll be graduating around the time I'm twenty-seven or so, be fresh out of college with no real experience, having had worked in food service for the last seven - nine years. Yeah, that's *really* going to impress potential employers. Obviously, I need to get some experience between then and now, I guess through internships or whatever.

Got my account back from David, that's fun.

This shit is bananas, B - A - N - A - N - A - S

I just spent the last six hours making pizzas.

And it was, at a conservative estimate, about a hundred times better than working at Sonic, with the exception of the three people I truly miss.

I mean, the attitude was totally different. Everyone was joking around, having a good time. It reminded me of the good days at Sonic, when I had a great crew. Of course, with 10-14 people on a shift, the possibility of a few bad apples ruining it for me was a lot greater. I think at our peak yesterday, there were four people inside, which was too many. They immediately accepted me as on of their own, possibly because I already knew how to do everything - I didn't start slapping dough until everyone but Juan was gone, but I can still do that really well, as well. The night went fine, even when it was just Sergio and me; I handled just about all of the closing duties myself, and I think I'll be closing by myself next week.

Of course, there were a *few* low points of the evening. I had a bad headache most of the night, but of course, I don't really blame Domino's for that. Oh, being back in the store also brings back a lot of memories. Most of them are really good, but a few, well, are ones I don't really dwell on anymore - most notably Lilie. I mean, I'm over her. Well, as over anyone as I ever get, which is mostly.

Now, that this love has overcome me

So, it's been quite a while since I've done an in-depth post about what's going on in my life, so I'm going to try to provide a brief history of what I've been up to.

So, I was working at Wal-Mart, doing overnight stocking on the grocery side of the store. I really liked it, for a few reasons. First, I didn't really have to deal with any customers at all. Well, I did occasionally, but it was stuff like "Hey dude, where's the Gatorade?" "Aisle six, right side, halfway down the aisle after the Kool-Aid." Usually, two to three of those a night, more on Fridays and Saturdays. The time period was great - 10 pm to 7 (8/9/10) am, which was fantastic. Work all night, sleep all day. I loved it. Had two days off, which didn't change from week to week. I was working with Matt, which meant we never had scheduling conflicts (at least, not work-based) for playing racquetball, and it made transportation fairly simple. There was even a cute girl, Robyn, to look at from time to time.

However, there were some definite downsides. First, we were constantly understaffed. I mean, systemically and intentionally. (In a related side-note, they've recently laid off even more people, causing massive understaffing throughout the entire store. Productivity has suffered as a result.) We were often running behind due to our lack of sufficient people. Of course, management didn't see it that way - we were "slackers" and "needed to pick up our pace." Juan constantly threatened us, saying that when the remodel was over, we were going to all be replaced by the remodel workers that they hired. That kind of frustrated me. At some point, Javi called me on my cell, asking if I still wanted to work there (in desperation, while searching for a job before Wal-Mart called, I stopped by there to see if they would hire me back. Dave waffled on it, but eventually left the option up to Javi, who called me, though by the time he did, Wal-Mart had called, so I declined.). He told me that Bubba, the former GM of Buda, was now our GM, and that things were totally different. Also, Ashley (of Domino's fame) was also an assistant there now, which was really neat. I really like working with her. We talked about it briefly, and I told him I'd call him back.

As luck would have it, a few days later, we had a ton of freight come in, a few people call in, and Juan was in particularly rare form. Ambra had started working there at this point, and Mindy was gone. Well, at that point, I decided I'd had enough. I went to the bathroom, called Ashley, confirmed that they still had a place for me, and walked out. It was fun. I clocked out, went up to Juan, and handed him my discount card that had my clock in bar code on the opposite side. He was kind of caught off-guard, as a good walk-out will always catch management. It was awesome. He told me that he'd always confirmed (excused) my absences - I had like four or so - and that he certainly wasn't referring to me when he talked about how much we suck. I wasn't going to be dissuaded, though, and I left. I kind of apologized to Ambra on the way out, because she was still there with all this terrible freight to have to deal with. On the way out, I stopped to talk to Robyn, let her know I enjoyed working with her but that I was leaving, and that I thought she was fantastically cute.

The personnel lady called me a few days later about why I left. I told her about Juan, she said something like "Well, that's certainly not true." Not the point. "Well, he shouldn't have done that." Yeah, I believe I indicated I already thought as much by leaving. She asked me if I wanted to talk to Terry (our GM), I half-heartedly accepted, but never showed up.

The next day, I was talking to Javi and Bubba at Sonic. One week after that, I walked into my first day of Sonic. That was interesting, because only Javi, Ashley, Bubba, and a few people who were still there - Larry, Cruz, Pedro - knew who I was. Everyone else just saw this new guy - goofy looking - in a shirt and tie, walking around like he knew the store like the back of his hand. Which I do. Anyway. I knew it was going to suck going in to it, but I figured, hey, Javi and Ashley are there, so how bad could it really be?

I quickly became acquainted with the new crew, which was in some ways better, some ways worse than the old crew I dealt with. Well, the old crew was probably better in most respects. I won't go too much into specifics, but there were some very constant things that really defined the new crew. Whining, for one thing. Attitude problems, for another. There were a few people I really despised, and a few people I really liked (Emily, Ashley S, Katie). Things started off pretty good. I started getting around 70 hours a week, which was nice, since it amounted to a FUCKTON of overtime, and very nice paychecks.

Then Ashley left.

That really, really, really sucked. I was really sad that she left, but I totally understand her decision to leave. She was really frustrated, since she had only wanted to be part time, and she hadn't worked less than 50 hours on any week since she started. She felt that either Bubba or upper management, whoever was responsible for it, just wasn't doing enough to get us more assistants, and Bubba kept scheduling her a ton (more on this later). That, and how frustrating and stressful of a job it is to begin with, made her leave. We didn't get another manager or anything for a quite a while, and we had a bit of a staffing crisis for a while. We got through that.

Then Javi left. That was really the beginning of the end for me, as well. Javi's last week, I worked 90 hours without a day off. Now, I was used to 70 hours a week with one day off, and that was okay. However, 90/0 wasn't really okay. Well, it would have been okay, but Bubba didn't see fit to warn me or anything. I mean, he knew about it as early as Sunday morning, possibly earlier. I wish he would have warned me or something, since he wasn't releasing the schedule for the week until Monday afternoon, which was also really frustrating. So I had to take this annoying Serv-Safe class (8 hours, 90 multiple-choice question test, test took about six and a half minutes), then go in and close afterwards. That was alright, since the early draft of the schedule had me off on Tuesday. However, I walk in around 6:30, look at the schedule, and find out I don't have a day off that week. Yeah, I was kind of upset. I mean, I know a lot of people work seven days a week, at jobs much harder than mine. I just wish Bubba would have warned me or something.

So Javi left, and it was just me, Angie, and Bubba. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Bubba took over doing the order and the schedule. We'd run out of stuff a lot more - tater tots, ranch, barbecue sauce, M&M's, spoons, bananas, sugar, you name it. That, and people would get scheduled when they weren't available, which, to be fair, stopped for the most part eventually. There were several weeks, though, where a lot of people couldn't come in when they were scheduled and it was our fault. Good times. The other fun thing about having Bubba in charge of scheduling... well, it really had nothing to do with him being in charge of scheduling, but something systemic about him managing, was that he expected every employee to be 100% devoted to the Drive-In. I'm not talking about just while they're on the clock, which I agree with, but ALL THE TIME. Every time someone called in, he'd ask people to stay late, and come in early, and come in on their only day off, and would get annoyed when they couldn't. I mean, I'm talking about people who'd already worked eight, ten hours, or had worked six days and it was their only day off. We didn't seem to be pursuing the long term solution, hiring more people so we didn't have to keep asking people to work stupid amounts of hours.

So yeah, I have a few grievances with Bubba as a GM. I think part of it might be the difference between Buda and San Marcos. Most of our crew members, at least non-cook, are college kids, who aren't looking for 40 hours a week, and will work that much if you need them to, but didn't apply for that. They're going to highly value their time outside of work, and place a greater premium on social time and interaction then on being at work, hence the frustration with always, ALWAYS being called in. Now, most of them are more than happy to help out occasionally. However, it starts to get annoying, when every other day, you're asked to stay late or come in early, when every day you "have off", you're asked to come in for a bit. There's a line between "helping out" and "being expected to be overly devoted to your job". That's one of the reasons Ashley left, as well.

So yeah, I put in my two weeks notice almost two weeks ago, on Saturday the fourth. I walked out on Friday the tenth. Almost made it. I didn't really tell anyone that I was leaving, except for Aaron, the assistant we were borrowing from Montopolis (who was a friend of Bubba's) a few days a week. That week, we finally had a new assistant start; he was an ex-GM from Round Rock or something.

Yeah, I feel pretty bad about walking out. Sort of. I mean, not really. I was really pissed off. Oh, yeah, forgot to mention, Sergio got the store, and called to offer me an MIT position. So I took that; I'll be starting there in a week. That's fun.

So that's where I am in terms of work. On to other matters.

I moved out of Les Chateaux a month or so after starting at Sonic. Moved back home instead of getting a 3-bedroom place with Ambra and David, decided to go back to school and the cheap rent offered at home would be a huge help towards that goal. I'm just now, three months later, that I'm finally starting to move in and get everything unpacked. I'm almost done there. Janelle moved out the other day, that was interesting. Not just into a dorm for the semester, but into a four bedroom apartment at University Springs with three dudes. That's cool. Spent Monday picking her up from the airport, then helping her move out. Got a decent entertainment center out of the deal, so I came out ahead.

Haven't talked to Lilie in, oh, probably two months now. I was going up to Austin every day off to play DDR and/or ITG2, and I'd usually call her before or during to see if she was around to see if she'd like to meet up, say hi, that kind of thing. The first time, I actually got a hold of her, and she didn't really seem very enthusiastic or anything. Every subsequent time, no answer whatsoever. A few weeks of that, and no reply whatsoever to any IMs/phone calls/emails, and I got the hint.

So yeah, I've already put in my application at SWT. I got re-accepted as well, so that's neat. I just have to go in for an academic advising appointment, then I'll be good to go. I'm starting in the Spring, and I'm pretty sure of what classes I'd like to take - Discrete I, Data Structures, Chem I, whatever CS course is next in my progression, and possibly Probability, depending on scheduling.

Oh, I sold my WoW account to David. Just didn't have the time working 70 hours a week, usually in 12-14 hour days. That, and the internet connection here SUCKED. It's getting better; we've upgraded our connection, and are on our third modem. So, we'll see. I'm contemplating buying it back, but I want to see how things go at Domino's first. Oh, Gina marked me down as non-rehireable, so that's fun. Eileen let Sergio rehire me anyway, so that's cool.

I think that's a sufficient return to blogging. More to come as updates warrant.

I haven't seen you for so long

So it's been a while since I've posted. Not *that* long, but long enough. About half a week, give or take.

So, let's go with a rundown:

Work

So I'm at about two weeks at Domino's. It's going well. Most of the crew are pretty cool. There's only two people I don't like - Chase and some guy... I think his name is Michael? Not sure about his name, but he's a little punk kid that gets on my nerves. Other than that, most of the people are pretty cool. I finally encountered one of Jenn's bad days, which wasn't fun. I've been paired mostly with Jess, who's *awesome* and really nice. I'm glad she's the one that's been training me. Gina pulled me aside the other day to talk, since she'd been busy pretty much since I started and we really hadn't had a chance to start, and told me that I was doing really well. Lilie talked to Jess about me one day, and she said pretty much the same thing. So that's cool. It's... well, it's a job. Much, much better than Sonic, if only because Gina >>>> Dave. I went by Sonic the other day - still the only place in town you can get a cherry limeade - and to turn in my last uniform shirt that finally came out of the wash, and I didn't recognize *anyone*. Very odd. Looks like he replaced around 1/2 - 3/4 of the crew in the last month. Damn.

Let's see... what else is there going on right now? Not much. More later.

2005-06-22

You do not understand. But you will.

Mini-post today. Was in a major funk yesterday, drove around some. Dropped off my uniform at Sonic, should be the last time I ever have to go there. When I went in, I only recognized like 3 people on a crew of ~12. Ouch. Staci was adamant about getting my number before I left, which is cool because unlike everyone else, I thought she was cool (everyone else thought she was a major bitch.) Finally removed myself completely from Feathermoon and moved over completely to Mal'Ganis with David. We're still going to jump on the next server to lanuch with some Horde-side action (Tauren Shaman as my main there), probably with Jarrod, two of David's friends, and whoever else wants to go (Matt, Luke, Bret, Michael... we could have a decent-sized core group). Lilie came over last night, and we had, well, a discussion. About us. Didn't resolve anything, but I did learn a thing or two.

2005-06-20

You've washed your hands clean of us

I still haven't gotten around to posting the rest of the follow-up to me leaving Sonic. Luckily, there's not much more to post after that - I've just been hanging out at the apartment, playing WoW and marathoning my way through B5 with David. We're one episode into season 4, which means we've watched 67 1 hour episodes, plus 1 made-for-TV movie. About 60% of the way done, though that's altered slightly with the other movies.

Starting at Domino's tonight, in about 40 minutes. And I'm... nervous. Very much so. It really doesn't have anything to do with Lilie, as some have suggested. It's just... I haven't been the new person in a *long* time. I never moved during school, and I've only had one job previously, and that lasted 4 1/2 years. I'm also scared of screwing things up and upsetting people. I hate doing that through ignorance.

Went and bought pants today, and realized I really need to lose weight. I know I've said that before, but now, I finally have complete control of my life, and can do it my way. Won't be easy, but what choice do I have?

Things with Lilie are still... well, the same, I s'pose. I'm not going to go to in-depth in that here, partially because I only have a few minutes right now, but mainly, because I don't want to spread her business around. Later, when I have some more time and inclination, I'll explain and explore what I can. I don't know how much that will be, and I doubt I'll break any new ground. It tends to go in circles in my mind anyhoo; I don't see much chance of a significant breakthrough anytime soon anyway. But I'm stubborn and don't give up easily.

Got kinda ansy last night and finally got around to cleaning up my room and organizing it some more. It's basically done, except for the dresser and some more boxes that I can't really do anything about until I get a bookshelf, which I plan on doing, well, maybe tomorrow. We'll see. Not sure where I'm going to put it - either in the closet, or between my bed and my desk. Ooh... I could even rotate my desk 90 degress towards the other wall, then put the bookshelf where the desk was. Interesting... I'll have to explore the myriad possibilities. But later.

Started my own guild on Feathermoon - 'Super Duper Awesome Guys'. The name sprung out of a conversation between David and myself. I'll tell the story later, but needless to say, it involved the phrase 'Decimating Ruiners' (though they originally spelled it wrong.)

2005-06-15

Ordinary Day

Wow, been a while since my last post. Didn't realize quite how long it'd been. So, let's remedy that.

Where to start, where to start? Last Tuesday night, I told Dave I was putting in my two weeks notice. I was just tired of working there. I wanted out, wanted to change. Lilie had been asserting for a while that I really needed to get out of there, and I agree(d) with her. So finally, I decided to do it. Freddie was getting ready to quit as well - he's moving to Austin to live with Lauren (his girlfriend of a fair amount of time now), so we were contemplating both walking out in the middle of the shift, though we eventually decided against it. So when Dave got back, we had the following conversation:

"Dave, just to let you know, I'm putting in my two weeks notice."
"Oh, why's that Will? Don't like the work anymore?"
"No, the work's fine, the people are all really cool; it's just that you're an egotistical sociopath."

He was pretty quiet after that. Not that I blame him. I mean, I'd been there about four and a half years, never indicated (at least, to him) that I had any problems with him. Of course, he's an incredible idiot who has no idea how much everybody hates him. So I went about my business, still working. I fully intended at that point to continue to work the remainder of my two weeks, though Dave has a tendency to stop scheduling poeple once they've put in their notice. That's only to protect him, as the motiviation to go for that last day or two is very small. Can't really blame him on that count. So yeah, I'm working, it's Tuesday night, we're decently busy. After it slows down, he said that we needed to have a conversation in the back. We went to the dry stock room, and he was like, "So you think I'm egotistical? Damn straight. I'm one of the best in the business; one of the best in the country. And you know why? Because I don't take shit from anybody." (I'm going to ignore the various logical inconsistencies and non sequiters in that sentence. He then followed up with, "And you think I'm a psychopath?" Which is wrong. I said sociopath. Important difference there, but I didn't correct him. he didn't really say anything else, so I started to walk back to the foutain. He then asked me when I wanted my last night to be. I said, "How about tonight?" He said "Sure." I thought he meant 'til close, but about ten minutes later, after another rush, he told me I could leave. Nobody believed me as I was walking out.

I'll get to the aftermath later.

Becaue you're the cause of most of them

That's somewhat of a generalization. Not 'most of them', but the ones I don't show around you. Problems at work? Slowly adjusting to Janelle's thing? Those, I have no problem sharing and showing you. But when it comes to when you make me sad or upset, it's hard to show that to you.

I know I'm a huge advocate of sharing feelings and being very open with your partner (well, that doesn't *quite* apply, but it's still the best word in this situation, I think). It's just, these are things you already know, or that aren't ever going to be resolved, so there's not really any point in bringing them up.

A lot of them stem from the fact that I still love you, in a very-much-more-than-friends kind of way, while I'm fairly certain you don't feel the same way about me. I'm not even talking degree here, but variety. Love me as a very close friend? Yes. Anything more? Though you're not sure, I'd guess no. And I don't think me feeling the way I do about you will bring about any good for anyone. I mean, hell, even if we were going to get back togther, me feeling like this would probably only be a determent, since you probably wouldn't walk into something like that.

So yeah. I don't want you to see the melancholy that occasionally successfully fights its way onto my face when we're together, and I have to remind myself that we're not together, and that I need to be your best friend, not your best friend that still longs to be with you. I don't want you to know how sad that makes me sometimes. I mean, I'm okay with it. Unrequited love is something I'm quite familiar with, and I know how to deal with it. But being best friends with the person in question, that's something new for me. Not that I would trade that part away for anything. The very things that put me in this uncomfortable situation are the same things that make us such good friends. It's just that they don't stop me from getting sad or upset. And not upset *at* you, don't think that. Upset at... well, things. Upset that I'll never quite know why we broke up. I know part of it, and I believe it, but I don't think I know the whole story, nor will I. Upset that I just wasn't the right person, or didn't say the right thing, or did the wrong thing. Sad that that will be the only chance I ever got.

So yeah, 'long story' and all. But don't worry - these are things I keep buried deep down, that I don't plan on bringing up with you. I mean, we're best friends, not ex's.

2005-06-05

The club will be shaking, there we'll be waiting, 'cause I don't play nice, pt 2

Didn't expect to end that last post so abruptly, but I had to go. I'm actually writing this post on Sesami, the computer in the living room whose output is the TV, which means it's really, really hard to read the text. IF this post has a lot of spelling and punctuation errors, that's why. Get over it.

JD came over last night and we watched some MST3K, and I'm *still* copying over his collection. He has all of them. All 199. I've got the majority copied over, but the lest set is a huge pain in the ass, because neither David's nor my computer's DVD drives will read about 10 of the DVDs he has, but the media center will, so I have to do it all from across the room. Meh, could be worse. A lot worse. Went over for breakfast tacos at Mom's house earlier, that was cool. She keeps sending stuff my way, as she's adjusting cooking for two instead of three or four. Saw Lilie in her new car (the Shiny; he doesn't have a name yet) delivering pizza. Things are going very well with her right now, I'm really happy with where we are. Where we are now, which is different from where we were the last time we saw each other (it makes sense, trust me).

Work's been hell lately. Had two 50+ weeks in a row. This week, at least I have Sunday off, though I did have to work 6 am to 4 pm yesterday to get it. I originally asked for last night and today off because I thought Terri was going to be in town; it's probably just as well that she's not. Long story. But I'm enjoying the heck out of my day off. Going to dinner later with the family 'cause Janelle's leaving on Tuesday for a month and a day. David mounted the speakers yesterday (we were going to do it together, but I fell asleep and I guess he didn't feel like waiting until I woke up.) It looks *really* cool. I can't wait to watch something that takes full advantage of the 5.1 format. But back to work. Lacey just quit - she walked out Friday night about 10:30; Dave's *real* pissed - he said he doesn't want her on the lot at all, not even as a customer. Which I have no problem with, I never liked Lacey. Emily's quitting too - she put in her two weeks, but Dave's just taking her off the schedule now, as people who do that tend to not show up and he'd rather just cover his ass. I hear Allison is about to leave as well. I'm glad Emily and Lacey are leaving, though Allison leaving makes me sad. A little. She's changed a lot lately. Kristen commeted on it as well when she came over to check the place out. Krystle got her job back and is going to stay, which is good. Flaky idiot though she may be, I prefer having her on the shift.

Time for a crew rundown. Sort of. Jennifer C is really cool - she came over and hung out with David and I the other day. We watched Euro Trip, then ran errands. That was fun. Got to know her a lot better. She's a lot weirder than she lets on. WHich is cool. Lala *did* call me on Wednesday to go floating, but didn't leave a message, and her phone was turned to private, so I couldn't call back. IT was annoying ot miss out on, but I'll live. Most of the other carhops don't like Stacy 'cause they think she's a bitch. I don't disagree, but I don't have the same reaction. I think she's really cool, bitch and all. The other night, she came up to me and asked me if I could teach her how to skate. We spent about half an hour after close on the lot, trying to teach her. Didn't go very well. I think she's going to try to get some blades, or talk to Dave about just fountaining. Either of those would be cool; I don't want her to leave. Jill and Krystie have finally settled into things; nothing either way on them. Josh N is out, finally. I hated that guy. THe other Josh is still here; I don't think he'll be leaving any time soon. I can work with him without problem, I just don't ilke him. Dave can kiss my ass, but I refuse to be forced to like my coworkers. Being able to work with them is enough.

Lilie hasn't been playing WoW much lately, though she did finally get Suchevane to 60. Jarrod and I are going to jump on the next PVP server and have Horde characters; David's going to join us, probably one of his friends as well. We might also have Alliance characters on David's server. Possibly; that'd be cool too. I've been having a lot of fun as Schlemilly, my gnomish mage. Pretty much have her spec down, which is a first.

Finally got Carrie's letter mailed, which should surprise her when she gets it. Her birthday is coming up soon, and I'm going to send her some flowers. That should surprise the crap out of her, which will be cool. I don't know if she still plans on coming down at some point, but I hope so. I haven't seen her in over two years. Imagine - someone to actually play DDR with. What a concept. Speaking of which, Rose is really enjoying living in FLorida. Her roommates are wither 'princesses' or 'villians', neatly segmented based on the characters they tend to like in Disney movies (She's a villian). She really wants me to come visit, but I don't know if Chelsea is up for another cross-counry trip. I'm thinking about it, though. I could visit Terri and Carrie as well while I'm over there; maybe even Aunt Janet and Uncle Barney as well. Hell, I"m sure I can find a decent number of reasons to go, as if the ones I have aren't enough already.

So... we finally finished season 1 of B5. We're 1/5th of the way done. Wow. Of course, given recent events, this one might be delayed, or dragged out further, or something. I don't know. We have a few other marathons we're also going to do.

  • Red vs. Blue

  • We could probably do this one in one night, definitely in two. We've both seen all of it extensively, though. Having Lilie over so she could finally watch it (though she doesn't seem to be able to go more than three episodes without falling asleep) is the main reason for this one.

  • Star Wars IV - VI

  • To remind ourselves what Episode III was supposed to be transiitiong *to*, and to remember how fucking AWESOME they were. And are.

  • MST3k

  • Don't konw about this one. It'd be ever longer than the B5 one... almost twice as many episodes, and each episode is roughly 2x as long. We're talking 20,000 minutes of viewing. Damn. Well over 300 hours, or ~ 2 1/2 days *straight*. Well, more than that - I did a ton of rounding. I'm tired, leave me alone. Given recent events, though, this one, at least in parts, is more likely, though. And I don't mean JD letting me borrow his entire collection, though that does help.

THis has been a fairly thourough post, so I think I'm going to end it here. Though it is fairly comfortable typing in the living room recliner.

2005-05-24

You move around like you're unbreakable, and time after time you prove that you're unshakable

This is going to be a very quick, short post. I have to leave for work very soon. After the first weekend at the new pad... things are going pretty good. Got the living room basically set up - still need to do little things, like mount the huge dry erase board, and set up the secondary gaming station. Both of our pcs are up, running, and talking to each other; we (David) set up the media server last night and watched "Josie and the Pussycats", as well as bits of "Hero", an episode of MST3K, and some Red vs Blue. So it looks like that whole thing is definitely set up and ready to go.

I've got my room... somewhat set up. Got my bed set up and made, and it's pretty comfortable. Lilie says it's not as comfortable as my bed back home, but there weren't any sheets or pillows or anything when she said that. The next time she comes over, and it has its full compliment of stuff, we'll see what she says. Of course, she's leaving for New York on Friday. I still have to make a post about her. Or five. Something along those lines.

My characters on WoW have been getting some nice equipment upgrades; Kat's 24 now.

Work sucks. Tracy and I almost went at it last night right before she left. I can't stand either Josh, though one may be out of there before too long, since he keeps trying to call in and doesn't want to be there. The other one, though, is about to start running shifts. That's going to be fun. I'm just glad I won't have to deal with him then. I've got like 51 hours this week - working every day - and I might stretch that out to 60, especially this weekend. I don't know how much I want to be lounging around the house, just chillin' this weekend. Yeah.

So living with David is interesting - need to make a post about that too.

But I have to leave for work, so this will all have to wait for later.

Oh, and Carrie might be coming down to visit as well. That would rock. Hardcore.

2005-05-10

Despite your nets and tuna fleets, we thought that most of you were sweet

So I heard from David earlier - we might be moving out as early this weekend. Which would be awesome. I'm anxious to do so. School's finally done with for now, so my schedule just opened way up. Means the nights will be longer, and harder to deal with.

Man, that means I need to hurry up and get some sheets, then. I have the bed already - ended up buying a new queen from Cen-Tex. Went and saw Kingdom of Heaven. It's... alright. A lot like Braveheart (which I'm watching right now), but with far fewer fights, and Orlando Bloom instead of Mel Gibson.

Work's been going okay. The roster finally seems to be stabalizing - Natalie, Betsy, Lala, Sam, Brenda, Brandi, Staci, Roxanne, and Melanie all seem to be catching on to everything and getting things done. Out of the new bunch, the first three and the last are definitely my favorites. Not that I have those, as a manager. I just mean those I relate to best on a personal level. Or something like that. Anyway.

Kass has taken to calling me a freak lately, which is fine. I am. I mean, the general group I tend to fit in with, I really don't. I've never found a group of more than three people that I'm comfortable with. I think I missed some socialization somewhere. It's hard to explain, but I just don't understand a lot of things that seem to be second nature to people in general. I don't really know if anybody really realizes just how bizarre I am, down to the core. Maybe Terri. Or Mindy. Probably Jarrod. Those are the only people I can think of that have known me for long enough to really understand. Or maybe not. Probably not. I'm just kind of rambling at this point anyway.

2005-05-05

If I had just one last wish, I would like a tasty fish

Man, things have been... weird lately. Well, not weird. Bad. Let's do a recap.

Wrote Carrie a four page letter before work on Tuesday; should surprise her when she gets that in the mail. Took Mom's car to work Tuesday morning; Allison freaked out when she first pulled up. She was all, "Crap, who the heck's car is that? I thought I was opening with Will!" I explained the whole thing to her, though. The phones went down again Tuesday. Morgan tried to call in, but she couldn't, so she ended up coming down there to let us know what was going on. She was *really* sick. I mean, her voice was all messed up, she was coughing something awful, you could tell she had massive congestion. She also just found out she has asthma, which really sucks. We couldn't call anyone to cover her, so she kinda hung around. Luckily, we were really slow. Javi got there and sent her home. Not much else notable, though I did manage to get a hold of Mom concering L&S, they would have Chelsea ready to go around 5 or 5:30. For 440 dollars or so. To be fair, that did include an oil change.

So I got my truck back, was running good. Talked to Heather, she mentioned a friend of hers was selling a king bed for like 95 dollars. I figured there was a slight miscommunication, but it sounded like he had a bunch of furniture he was trying to unload, and thought I might still be able to get a good deal. Got David to come along, which is always nice. Mom printed out some thing from the 'net about a rental property that they were clearing out, anybody could just go by and pick up whatever they wanted. I was going to go, but I wanted someone to go with me. Took about three minutes to exhaust the list of potential partners-in-crime in San Marcos. That was fun. Ending up taking Janelle; we got there, and it was... well, kinda weird. It was dark when we got there, and of course, there was no power. We left my truck lights running, but that didn't really help once we got inside. Nothing in there was worth it, though Janelle did get a bag of stress-relief toys, so the trip wasn't a total loss.

Wednesday afternoon, went to Pflugerville with David to meet up with this guy. He wanted 350 for the bed, but he came down to 310 since we also bought a couch with a little fold-out bed. It's kinda small, though - more love seat-ish, really. Two cushions. Though it means people will have somewhere to crash. Or something like that. Loaded up the bed and the couch and drove home. I thought the bed looked a little small, but I figured that that was just my high expectations failing. Stopped at the Buda Sonic, 'cause I really wanted a cherry limeade. I climbed into the bed to check out my recent acquisition. Something seemed kind of off, though - a king bed is supposed to be about 6' 1/2" square, which means I could lie either way without anything dangling off. However, that didn't seem to be the case. I thought it might have just been the way it was sitting in my truck or someting, but I resolved to check it out when I got home.

So we get home, and I pull out a tape measure. Sure enough, it wasn't a king, but a queen. That kind of upset me. I mean, I can get a brand new queen bed in town for like 120. I figured I'd give him the benefit of the doubt; I called him back and confirmed that it was supposed to be a king bed, and informed that it was, in fact, a queen. I told him this, and he reacted... in a bad way. He started saying how we had an agreement, and that I had looked at the bed and said it was okay, etc. I then told him that yeah, we had an agreement that I was buying a king bed. So he scooted around the issue a little bit more - said something about how when you buy something at a store, you can't just bring it back 'cause you don't like it. I told him that yeah, you basically can, *especially* when they lied to you about what you were buying, and in that case, they can face legal action - not that that would have to happen in this case - so that was kind of a bad example. Eventually, he agreed to just give me my money back. He tried offering some of it back, and I'd keep the bed, but after his little thing, I was really pissed, and didn't want him to get anything. I was ready to bring the couch back as well, but David wanted to keep it.

Went to work, got to talk to Lala. She seems cool. Came home, showered, etc. Started to feel a little bad. By 3 or so, it had graduated to full-on nauseua. I knew I was going to throw up, but I wasn't sure how long it was going to take. So I kind of lay there in bed, with Eddie Izzard on, in a half passed out state, 'til it finally came. And come, it did. It was *gross*. Went back into my bed, and just kind of lay there, not quite asleep, but not entirely awake either. I threw up, I think, about five more times. Most of them were just dry heaves, which were terrible. It felt like someone was wringing me out, like a wet towel. I had been drinking water and took some anti-nauseua medicince, but I threw that up as well. It wasn't pleasent. The *really* fun part came a few hours later. My stomach and chest muscles were really sore from all the contractions during the dry heaves, so I couldn't breathe. Well, not really. I'd start to breathe in, and my lungs would start expanding, but the muscles around them were really sore and wouldn't go any further. So that was fun.

'Round noon, I left to get David and go *back* to Pfulgerville (this is an hour drive, mind you) to get my money back from that guy. I really didn't want to, given how incredibly crappy I was feeling, but I didn't really have much choice. So we got there without incident, he didn't really say anything as we unloaded the bed back into his house. I was *so* pissed at him. So we had to stop at a gas station on the way back so I could go to the bathroom. Got back to David's, and he let me hang out there for a little bit. I felt really bad, and just wanted to lie down for a while. I did, 'til he had to leave to go to San Marcos to talk to the guy at Best Buy here. I came home, and fell asleep. Upon waking up, I felt... well, kinda better. Different. I don't really feel nauseous anymore, though I do have a massive headache. But I can deal with headaches. I'm good at ignoring them.

A little piece of heaven, baby, a place to call my own

So, I'm re-installing WoW right now. It's been freezing up while playing - I mean the computer, completely, not just the game. I've already run various scans - ad/mal/spy ware, virus, updated my graphic drivers, run a few different system scans. If this doesn't work... well, I'm not completely sure what's next. I don't really want to reformat my C drive or reinstall Windows XP. So I hope this works. Would have done this sooner, but I had to wait for Jarrod to get back from whereever he was; my disks were still over there from when I installed the game on his computer.

So, in the interim...

First, work. We've lost a ton of people, and have been hiring new people rapidly to try to fill those gaps, in addition to gearing up for the summer. Let's see...

Right before Spring Break, we lost like eight people - Katie, Shelley, Emily, the other new girl, Drew, Ashley, and two others. Can't really remember who else. Katie went to Slaughter. Ashley and Shelley just quit; Drew was mistakenly fired (and subsequently re-hired). Emily was the new girl hired on Monday; she was really cool and picking everything up, but for whatever reason, she quit on Thursday. We've also recently lost another clump of people. Jenn got fired, Frank got fired, amongst others. So, who do we have now?

Kitchen:

Ray:
Still the big dog in the kitchen. Despite having stepped down from being a manager, he still opens once or twice a week - which is nice, because one of those shifts used to be mine, and I don't particularly like opening.

Freddie:
Freddie's still Freddie, though he's more prone to getting pissed off at me lately. Of course, that might be my fault; meh. He's going to be leaving in August (?) when his lease expires, to move up to Austin and move in with his girlfriend Lauren. So I'm excited for him.

Larry:
Larry's going to be moving to days, since he ended his other job, and picked up another one with a different schedule. Other than that, he's still the same. Got a rather nasty burn on his stomach a few days ago when the grease trap fell out of the vent and splashed into the fryer, spilling grease onto his stomach and a little on his cheek. Luckily, it wasn't *that* bad, but he did stand in the walk-in freezer for a bit with mustard on it (Don't ask.)

BJ:
BJ's a new cook we picked up a while back. He's great - already knows how to do the boards and has no qualms about doing so whenever asked, and has a good sense about when to do it when we don't.

Mark:
Mark used to work at the other Sonic, and it shows. He's another good cook, picking things up quickly.

Filèmon:
A new hire, without previous experience. Seems to be going okay so far. His first day, we didn't have a shirt in his size, so he had to cook in the shirt he came in, which looked kind of funny.

Tomas:
Still lazy and perverted.

Andrew:
Still here - got mistakenly fired again when the message didn't get relayed to Dave about his child being born. But I love working with him.

Albert walked out in the middle of a shift without notice or explanation; Frank got fired one Sunday when he called in and said "I partied too much last night and didn't get enough sleep."

Front:
Members of the old crew that are still there: Allison, Erica, Tracy, Megan, Emily, Lacey, Cat, Adam, Jessica. I think that's about it.

New:
Krystle:
Chelsea's friend, she's... kinda stupid. She'd be really cool if she wasn't. Cute voice (she's the one on my voice mail), cute face/body... but a total idiot. For shame. At least we've got her working on the boards.

Amanda:
This is the girl in this round of hirings that I've been accused of liking (at least it's not *every* new carhop now). All I said is that she was attractive. Anyway. She used to be a stripper, and is really cool. Had two incidents with customers already, but neither was major - luckily. We do get along pretty well, which is nice.

Morgan:
She's one of the older new people, hired not too long after Krystle. She's alright, I guess.

Brandi:
Adam's girlfriend. I like her a lot better than him - she's a hard worker, doesn't screw around or mess with people that are having bad days.

Brenda:
She's almost 40. But she came from another Sonic, and I like working with her. The only annoying thing is her tendency to call everybody "Hun". I *hate* that. A lot.

Courtney:
Bruce's little sister. I like working with her as a carhop, kind of. Shared background and stuff is always good, though her constant talking - while nowhere near as bad as Jessica - does get annoying.

People I don't have an opinion on yet: Natalie, Samantha, Staci.

My schedule's changed, so now, I'm usually opening Tuesday, then doing 5-C Thu/Sat/Sun. That'll go up once school gets out, but I hope to keep Fridays off. There's a rumor that Dave's going to leave and Javi will get the store. That'd rock, and I'd probably step up to first assistant.

Dave... argh. I still hate him with every fiber of my being. He has a tendency to call me before shifts on Thursday and Saturday to give me a rundown on stuff that's going on - which is nice - but he'll ask me how I'm doing, how school's going, that kind of thing. Which really bothers me. He invited me to go flying with him a while back, and I was seriously considering it, though I ended up sleeping through the time period in question.

So, that's work. Not quite as in depth as I had planned, but I think it kind of catches up everything I"ve missed. At least now, when I throw out Amanda's name, it won't need that much explanation. Oh! I think Allison and I are going to start hanging out some. Maybe. We *were* going to go see Sin City on Friday, but I woke up about five minutes before the movie was about to start, and she left by the time I got there (about three minutes after the movie was supposed to start). I talked to her Monday evening and straightened everything out, and we had a nice chat. So we'll see how that goes. I just have this memory of Kenny's party - the one I kissed Lilie for the first at. She had pulled me aside to talk to me about what was going on with JD, and to give me some advice, but - and I think this is mostly the alcohol talking, but still - started telling me what a great guy I was, and eventually broke down in tears. She composed herself fairly quickly, but it was a weird moment. Anyway. Oh, and I let Megan borrow The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and she seems to be enjoying it. I think we might go see it when it comes out. I mean, I'm supposed to go see it with Lilie, and I have every intention of doing so (which means I might see it twice, if both work out), but I'm not a hundred percent sure that she wants to. But that's another story, one I don't know if I have the energy to tell right now.

So yesterday, Carrie IM'ed me. Almost completely out of the blue. It was really cool. We hadn't really talked since... well, since around September or so. And even then, it had already been growing sporadic. But we caught up on what each other were doing, talked for maybe half an hour (it's hard to remember, 'cause Terri called near the tail end of the conversation, so I was talking to both of them for a while. But anyway. She broke up with that guy she had been seeing the last time we talked, and is seeing some new guy. She's about to start working at UPS, which is cool. But it's the stuff about us that was cool. Some choice quotes (all unedited):

sin_deeply_my_wicked_angel18: billy
sin_deeply_my_wicked_angel18: I have been trying to get a hold of you for so long
sin_deeply_my_wicked_angel18: i miss you so much
mr_binky_the_jackalope: I miss you too.
mr_binky_the_jackalope: You always pick the best times, like when I'm at school, or at work, or passed out asleep.
sin_deeply_my_wicked_angel18: lol
sin_deeply_my_wicked_angel18: i know...im always good at that it seems.
sin_deeply_my_wicked_angel18: well, what about right now?
mr_binky_the_jackalope: I was about to leave to go see a movie.
mr_binky_the_jackalope: But I think I'll have to pass on it now.
sin_deeply_my_wicked_angel18: I don't want to stop you from having fun, how about i give you my cell and you can call me when its a good time for yous
mr_binky_the_jackalope: Well...
mr_binky_the_jackalope: The problem is that a 'good time' for me is usually between the hours of 12 and 4am.
sin_deeply_my_wicked_angel18: I just thought i would give it a shot and say hi, i dont really know your timing anymore :((
sin_deeply_my_wicked_angel18: oh my

sin_deeply_my_wicked_angel18: i don't care what he has to say though because there is nothing that is going to keep me from talking to my billy (putting him working, sleeping, schooling to the side that is)

mr_binky_the_jackalope: We were talking about you at work last night.
sin_deeply_my_wicked_angel18: really?
sin_deeply_my_wicked_angel18: :D
mr_binky_the_jackalope: Really.
sin_deeply_my_wicked_angel18: good i hope
mr_binky_the_jackalope: Of course :0
mr_binky_the_jackalope: ** ;)
sin_deeply_my_wicked_angel18: :)
sin_deeply_my_wicked_angel18: oyu know, the promise still stands
sin_deeply_my_wicked_angel18: you*
mr_binky_the_jackalope: Uh-oh...
sin_deeply_my_wicked_angel18: :P ina couple years if we are still single then we are just gonna get together and get married :O

I mean, it's so weird. We haven't really talked in over half a year. There are parts of her that I've forgotten, with everything that's been going on, and things I can't forget. That sounds weird, I know. I mean, if both of us did long distance - which neither of us do - we'd so be dating right now. Well, we would have; dunno how long it would have lasted. I"m gong to write her a really long letter and surprise the crap out of her. I've been half-heartedly thinking about making a trip out east - visit Rose while she's in Florida, 'cause I know she'll miss everyone here (not really, but she's been bugging me to promise that I'll come visit), *maybe* Terri, though it would be weird, since she lives with Ed, Carrie in Kentucky. But I don't think it'll happen. It'd be cool, though.

Oh, speaking of which, Terri has re-emerged as well. She's been calling me a lot, and we talk. About life, about us, about everything. It's... good. We're just, well, I guess the best way to put it is transparent to each other. There are no barriers between us. It's the kind of relationship that I hope to have with whomever I end up with. I finally got the dates for when she'll be visiting, which is cool, so I can take at least part of that time off. Probably won't get all four days, but two consecutivelty would be great.

Finally talked to David; he's coming down on Friday, and we're going to start looking for a place. His price range is a little higher than mine, but based on preliminary discussions, I think we'll be fine. I'm so looking foward to finally moving out, though I don't think it will help all the things it could.

(Wow, I'm writing some really vague, poorly constructed sentences tonight. It'll pass as I get back into the swing of things. Bare wth me).

Mom insists on having this bizarre 'Moving-out Party'. I wasn't consulted at all, though it will be bearable. Jarrod's going to be out of town, though Rose said she could make it. Lilie's up in the air. David might come down as well. I'm really not sure what to expect, though Mom said something about "Eating pizza and giving you a hard time." Frankly, I'm sick of being the person in groups that's always 'given a hard time.' I know it probably stems from who I act, so I'll be examining that in days to come. But anyway. I'm getting the big speakers that are on top of the wall unit right now, and am considering buying a queen-sized bed. I *love* being able to stretch out at Lilie's and Rose's, which I can't really do on mine. This bed will be a pain in the but to move anyway, so we'll see abou that.

I've covered more or less what I wanted to, 'cept Lilie. I'm still not sure what to write about her. I'll keep it brief: I still like her as much as I ever did; she's seeing someone else, and I wish them nothing but the best of luck. I highly doubt we'll ever get back together agin, but I can hope.

And to quote Lorien, "Hope is all you have."

Wirklich sein

Wow. Apparently, I only made like 4 - 7 posts (I lost count) during the entire month of March. Man, they were right that I never update my blog. I mean, in my defense, the posts would have started to look awfully repititious -

"Man, work sucks." "Man, I miss Lilie."

"Yeah, still miss Lilie, and work still sucks."

"Status report. Work: Sucks. Lilie: Miss her."

"Yeah, work rocked today, and I no longer miss Lilie at all.
.
.
.
Not really."

So yeah, that's one of the reasons I didn't really post last month at all. Hell, I haven't really posted all that much this month either. But I've still got a week, and I can make up for that lost time. Or something like that.

So, let's see, what can I cover in the ten minutes before I have to go to work? Not much. Really, I can only cover what I want to cover at a later date. Which is what a lot of my posts have been lately, the difference being that I'm actually updating now. So, without further ado:

  • Work: Why it sucks; dossiers on the new people; who left and why
  • School: How it's going and why
  • Lilie: What's up with her
  • Carrie/Terri: Their sudden reappearance in my life
  • Moving out (yes, you heard that right)
  • Life in general

We'll see how far I get.

In other news, my current WoW lineup is:

Ascmilly - Human Warrior - 43
Asclepius - Human Warlock - 22
Balderk - Dwarf Hunter - 20
Schlemilly - Gnome Mage - 16
Schlemepius - Gnome Rogue - 16
Katrean - Dwarf Priest - 8

But now, I've got to get ready for work.

The way I wish you would

Work was bad tonight. More on that later. If I ever get around to posting that mega-update I always talk about, that is. It's coming one day. I mean, *bad*. If I was the kind of person who drank, I'd wake up tomorrow morning in someone's bathtub with no recollection of anything that happened after 12:30 am.

In other news, I'm making progress. Sort of. I almost didn't cry tonight. Which is good. It's progress I have to make, but that I certianly don't want to make. However, that decision was made a long time ago, was completely beyond my control, and hopefully, one day, I hope I truly understand all the reasons why. Of course, I highly doubt that I ever will.

Damn.

It took three whole hours, and five long days

Lots of stuff going on right now. Definitely gonna move out, as soon as David is ready. Might be sooner than initially expected, which is good. Lilie came back from Houston with a huge headache, I took her some aspirin at like 1 in the morning after work, and was invited to crash there, but I couldn't because of stupid Dave and the crew he gave me Sunday night. Argh.

Lego Star Wars: The Video Game is ridiculously awesome, and the entire design team deserves, at the very least, copius amounts of oral sex.

Janelle's also going to be moving out, probably a month or two after I do. I'm not sure how Mom's going to handle it. I think she'll talk to Gip a lot. Or call us all the time. Or both. She's also throwing a 'Moving-out Party' for me, which is... odd. It'll be bearable, though, 'cause both Jarrod and Lilie are coming. Terri's going to be down for a few days in June, going to a cousin's wedding in San Antonio. Sounds like she'll probably stay a few days in town as well. That'll be cool, get to see her again. Ooh, just realized I'll probably have moved out by then. Interesting.

Dave might be leaving the store, which would mean Javi would become GM, and I'm pretty sure I'd become first assistant. That'd be cool, if it wasn't so sad.

Kind of a sporadic update. One of these days, I'll get a massive update together.

Possibly.

2005-04-12

'Cause I'm getting tired of pretending I'm tough

It appears the rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.

I forget where I heard that. US History? Babylon 5? Anyway.

Few quick updates - have to leave for work in fifteen minutes or so. I hate opening, but all things considered, it's the preferable Dave shift during the week. I'd much rather open than work tonight, for instance.

Work has been sheer hell lately. The massive turnover that occurded during Spring Break has continued. Just this weekend, we lost another three people - Chelsea, Lindsey, and Chris. I managed Sunday night, and it was terrible. The new people are doing a good job, all things considered, but they're still *new people*, which means they're inexperienced. It's going to be a while before I have another awesome shift where I barely have to do anything other than fountain, because everyone else is really good and knows what they need to do. Ah, well. I mean, right now, we have how many new people? Lemme think... Brandi, Brenda, Morgan, Amanda, Ashley, Daniel - that's only six, but we have another three to five coming in, and that's not factoring in the three people that just quit, or Janelle and Freddie leaving before too long (Janelle much sooner than Freddie), or things of that nature. I'm just getting tired. I'd like to take some time off. I was almost offered the chance to take a road trip with Rose to Florida, but it looks like her parents will be driving her. Damn.

Terri and I have been talking again. In fact, I sat there for about twenty minutes as she cried about her current relationship being comfortable, but not love, and how she always swore she wouldn't settle for that, but that she's afraid she is, especially because of her daughter.

Things with Lilie are, well, not terribly different than they've been for the last few months. She's still with Scott, and things seem to be going swimmingly, which is good. Whether or not people believe it, I'm glad she's happy, even if it's not with me. I mean, I won't lie - I do still have strong feeling for her, as strong as they've ever been, and I would still jump at the chance, but I know that it's proabably not coming. I still can't say it without hedging it, though.

I think that deserves its own absurdedly long post. Hell, I might even finish the girlfriend saga that I never did - the rest of Mindy, Suzie, and the incidentals - Heather, Sara, Melissa, Leslie, and Dru. Or maybe not. We'll see.

I've managed to say not nearly enough on any of the given subjects I had planned on broaching. Good times.
